Redness rarely comes with warning. It shows up after a spicy lunch, a walk from the car park in the midday heat or an afternoon in an office cold enough to need a cardigan. Dark marks are slower and more stubborn. A breakout clears in a week, but the shadow it leaves can stay for months.
La Mer’s NEW Concentrate goes after both. It’s a reformulation of the brand’s long-running calming serum, the one regulars reach for when their skin starts acting up, and this version takes on a second job: evening out the marks that sensitive, breakout-prone skin tends to collect.

LA MER
Behind it is a shift in how La Mer thinks about sensitive skin. The brand no longer treats it as a type you either have or don’t. Its view is that sensitivity runs on a spectrum, from cheeks that redden at the slightest change in temperature to a face fresh out of a facial or laser. It also argues that skin living under constant low-level stress shows its age sooner because of it. For anyone who spends the day moving between Kuala Lumpur’s heat and frozen meeting rooms, that will sound familiar.
What’s inside

LA MER
The base is still Miracle Broth, the sea kelp elixir the brand was built on. Here it goes through a cold-vacuum process that leaves it four times as concentrated, which La Mer calls Concentrated Miracle Broth. Its job is the calming. Taking the heat out of skin and strengthening the barrier so it reacts less in the first place.
The marks are handled by something new, The NEW Clarity Algae which works to fade existing discolouration and stop new marks from settling in. Lime Tea Concentrate, an antioxidant La Mer developed in-house, sits alongside it to help shield skin from the city it lives in.
The formula is built in two layers. An outer phase stays near the surface as a protective film, while an inner phase carries the broth and the actives. The idea is that skin gets comfort straight away and treatment over time.
How it fits into your week

LA MER
The serum is meant for morning and night, as the step between cleansing and everything else. It’s also built for the days after a laser, peel or facial, when skin is at its most reactive. La Mer tested it on Asian women before and after laser treatments, which says a lot about who the brand has in mind.
The texture is the same velvety one longtime users will know. The scent is the part to pay attention to: lavender, rosemary and sweet basil, rounded out with helichrysum. On paper that reads closer to a herb garden than a perfume counter, which suits a serum meant to calm things down. It also gives a few seconds of quiet at the start and end of a busy day.
At RM2,230, this isn’t something you add to the basket on impulse. But if your skin flushes easily or keeps a record of every breakout, this is the serum in the La Mer line worth asking about at the counter.
The NEW Concentrate is now available in Malaysia at La Mer stores nationwide.
